Standing Together in the Fight Against COVID-19

Thermo Fisher Scientific is at the forefront in the response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The company has established worldwide leadership in COVID-19 testing and is actively involved in supporting research, development and production of vaccines and therapies. Our Mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer, and the COVID-19 pandemic is a powerful reminder of its importance.

As the second wave of COVID-19 continued to rise unabated across India, and with government health infrastructure stretched to its limit, private organizations stepped-in to help by importing much needed oxygen cylinders and testing supplies, setting-up hospital beds, and creating awareness to stop the spread of the virus. At Thermo Fisher, we leveraged our partnerships with key government and non-government organizations to swiftly mobilize resources and offer support to meet the escalating testing and vaccine production needs of the country.

In addition to expanding access of industry leading technologies and solutions, Thermo Fisher donated $10 million to help India in bringing the health crisis under control. The company directed more than $1 million to non-governmental and nonprofit organizations, such as the WHO that are directly serving the people impacted by the pandemic. Nine million was extended in the form of COVID-19 testing products, personal protective equipment, and other critical supplies from across the business.

“As a company we realize our responsibility goes beyond serving our customers and extends to the actions we take to support our communities. In addition to supplying urgently needed products to meet the escalating testing and vaccine production needs in the country, we have partnered with several NGO’s to support people and communities most impacted with the pandemic”, said  Amit Chopra, managing director, India and South Asia, Thermo Fisher Scientific .

“These contributions demonstrate our long-standing commitment to our colleagues, customers, and society in India”, added Amit.

At Thermo Fisher, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach is based on four key pillars: Operations, Colleagues, Communities and Environment. These values enable us to create value by providing high-quality products for our customers, creating a great place to work for our colleagues, delivering returns for our shareholders, making a difference in our communities and reducing our impact on the environment.

“As part of our CSR efforts in India, Thermo Fisher has supported several NGOs like United Way, Give India and UNICEF. These donations are being utilized for immediate COVID relief materials and for long term projects like setting up oxygen plants and running vaccination drives for the underprivileged. Together, our investments in technology, products and people help to ensure sustainable growth and create a positive impact on the world,” said Puneet Rajput, senior director, Human Resources, India and South Asia.

Overall, more than 320+ oxygen concentrators, 130 oxygen cylinders, 20 BiPaP machines, 11 ventilators and more than 1500 PPE kits have been donated through the NGO partners in India.

Acknowledging the efforts, Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, Government of India said, “We deeply appreciate the generous support and encouragement from Thermo Fisher Scientific during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their commitment and support of 4.6M VTM tubes will strengthen the system of collection, transportation, and storage of COVID test samples.  This will greatly mitigate the pain and suffering of those most impacted.”
