Thermo Fisher Scientific Continues to Expand Plasmid DNA Purification Portfolio of Low-Endotoxin Plasmid DNA Isolation Kits
New PureLink Fast Low-Endotoxin Kit Significantly Reduces Plasmid Purification Time to Accelerate Protein Expression

CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the launch of its new PureLink Fast Low-Endotoxin Plasmid Purification Midi and Maxi Kits, further strengthening its line of low-endotoxin plasmid DNA isolation products. The kits offer researchers dramatically accelerated isolation of plasmid DNA compared to current standard protocols.

With the PureLink kits, researchers can isolate transfection-quality plasmid in about 30 minutes – up to 0.4 mg for midi scale and up to 1.5 mg for maxi scale preparation – enabling researchers to obtain high yields of low-endotoxin DNA in significantly less time and without a tedious alcohol precipitation step.

"We are committed to accelerating our customers' journey to discovery and are excited that we can now offer customers a complete portfolio of low-endotoxin plasmid DNA isolation kits for a wide range of applications," said Jeff Franz, general manager of sample preparation at Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The latest offering in our portfolio of plasmid DNA isolation kits offers researchers a protocol for protein expression that is simple, prompt and reliable. With a streamlined purification process, researchers can focus on higher value activities – such as vaccine development, gene therapy and genome engineering."

The technology behind the faster isolation time is Thermo Fisher's innovative advanced silica membrane-based columns, utilized in combination with the Thermo Scientific FastVac vacuum manifold –  enabling isolation of transfection-quality plasmid in as little as 30 minutes. Traditional anion-exchange resin-based columns rely on gravity flow to purify the DNA, and also require an isopropanol precipitation step, which takes more than two hours.

"Earlier this year, we introduced new endotoxin-free maxi, mega and giga plasmid purification kits using the Fast Anion Exchange membrane technology," said Franz. "Now we are adding a new advanced silica technology to our low-endotoxin portfolio in response to growing customer demand for even faster purification times. Pharmaceutical companies, in particular, require more efficient plasmid purification solutions to help fill their pipeline for new therapies as they increasingly move toward biologics."

Low-endotoxin plasmid is ideal for transfection of a wide range of cell lines, as well as less sensitive applications such as in vivo transcription, PCR, cloning and sequencing. The PureLink Fast Low-Endotoxin Midi and Maxi Plasmid Purification Kits meet stringent industry standards for low-endotoxin plasmid DNA, with less than 1 EU/µg, and provide high-purity DNA with ultra-low levels of protein, RNA and genomic DNA contamination, along with the productivity gains of vacuum assisted filtration.

Plasmid purified with the PureLink Fast Midi and Maxi Kits is fully compatible with and complements the workflows of the Gibco ExipCHO and Expi293 Expression Systems.
