FRANKFURT--ACHEMA 2015 – (June 15, 2015) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, is showcasing its latest innovations designed to accelerate life science research and increase productivity for biosciences and bioprocessing. The broad range of the company’s introductions includes solutions for material characterization, single-use bioprocessing systems, laboratory equipment and chemicals, chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments and analytical software.
Thermo Fisher’s solutions will be displayed this week at ACHEMA 2015, June 15-19 at the exhibition grounds of Messe Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Laboratory and Analytical Techniques Hall 4.2, Booth D8 and in the Thermal Processes Hall 5.1.
In a separate announcement today, Thermo Fisher has expanded its existing campus in Inchinnan, Scotland, with the addition of a new facility that will produce a novel and proprietary dry media powder known as Gibco Advanced Granulation Technology (AGT) Cell Culture Media. AGT media is a crucial raw material used to manufacture biologics, including vaccines, anti-cancer therapeutics and other life-saving drugs and offers biologics producers the benefits of traditional liquid media without the associated cost, storage and transportation challenges.
Highlights at ACHEMA 2015 include:
- Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS Rheometers, which offer material scientists in applied markets advanced quality control and academic research an enhanced, modular rheometer platform to increase workflow efficiency and minimize operator error while analyzing the rheological properties of a broad range of samples;
- Thermo Scientific Vanquish Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) system, which offers breakthrough performance in sample separation, throughput and ease-of-use for applications ranging from pharmaceutical QA/QC to food safety testing. The Vanquish system also features the company's gold-standard Chromeleon Chromatography Data System to further simplify HPLC analysis;
- Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-Use Mixers (SUMs), combining the benefits of the company’s widely used SUMs with advancements to address the requirements of single-use bioprocessors from scale-up to cGMP manufacturing. Among the new features are optimized tubing management, advanced clean-in-place sterilization, rapid setup and turnaround times and streamlined handling of hazardous materials;
- Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-Use Fermentor, the first system specifically engineered for microbial fermentation, which delivers on the aggressive process demands of industrial microbiology without compromising on performance;
- Thermo Scientific VersaCool Refrigerated Circulating Bath, which features unique headless technology and offers researchers working with temperature-sensitive samples a larger bath area than most competing models. The instrument is designed to allow laboratories to fit more samples in the same footprint, access the instrument more easily and save valuable space;
- Thermo Scientific Eutech Waterproof Handheld Meters, which offer an innovative approach to electrochemistry measurement. The latest addition to Thermo Fisher’s value line of meters, the Eutech 150 and 450 series, include seven waterproof handheld meters designed to deliver benchtop functionality with the versatility of a portable instrument;
- Fisher Chemical Optima UHPLC-MS Solvents, exceptionally pure mobile phase solvents for ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) instruments. They have been designed to reduce background signal and minimize chromatographic interferences, facilitating accurate, sensitive and rapid trace analysis;
- Thermo Scientific Q Exactive GC hybrid quadrupole-Orbitrap GC-MS/MS system, the first-ever commercial system offering a combination of gas chromatography and HRAM Orbitrap mass spectrometry. The instrument is designed to provide the comprehensive characterization of samples in a single analysis for increased performance in compound discovery, identification and quantitation;
- Thermo Scientific Pharma 11 twin-screw extruder, a groundbreaking hot-melt extrusion, continuous-process solution for the laboratory benchtop. The Pharma 11 system allows pharmaceutical manufacturers to study and easily transfer critical process parameters from lab scale to medium scale andproduction scale across a full line of industry-proven pharmaceutical extruders; and
- Gibco Dynamis Medium for Fed-Batch Cell Culture Processes, a fortified basal media to help maximize recombinant CHO cell growth and protein expression, providing customers with significantly greater yields than existing formulas. When paired head-to-head against other media with simple glucose supplementation, Dynamis media generates 170 percent greater productivity by day 14. As a simple-to-scale product, scientists can achieve these results without complex workflows or pH adjustments.
Additional new chromatography and mass spectrometry solutions to be presented at ACHEMA for the first time are the Thermo Scientific TSQ 8000 Evo GC-MS/MS analyzer, Virtuoso Vial Identification system, the Chromeleon Data system and SampleManager LIMS.
