VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ASMS 2012--Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today debuted Thermo Scientific EASY-Spray, a solution that integrates EASY-Spray™ columns with the EASY-Spray ion source to deliver effortless “plug-and-spray” nano-flow liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) performance. Unlike other integrated nano-flow LC-MS solutions, easy to use, highly reliable EASY-Spray offers unconstrained column loading capacity and robust performance up to 1000 bar, enabling users to take advantage of longer columns packed with smaller (2 um) particles.

The company will showcase the new EASY-Spray solution within Thermo Scientific booth 1 and the Thermo Scientific hospitality suite at the Vancouver Convention Center (Parkview Terrace – Rooms 1, 2 and 3) during ASMS 2012, being held May 20-24.

The quality of nano-flow LC-MS results relies on perfect connections between several pieces of nano-bore tubing and the electrospray emitter. Poor connections result in leaks and dead volumes and lead to low-quality data and lost analysis time.

EASY-Spray helps to address user reported difficulties with connecting tubing, columns and emitters by combining temperature control with a precision-positioned glass emitter in an integrated design that requires only one nanoViper connection between the LC and the EASY-Spray ion source.

Column temperature control increases run-to-run reproducibility and UHPLC compatibility for increased productivity. Built from the highest-quality chromatographic media and device components with exacting manufacturing precision and strict quality control, EASY-Spray columns are designed to increase system robustness, throughput, separating power and sensitivity.

The EASY-Spray ion source houses the EASY-Spray column, temperature display and camera for easy attachment to Thermo Scientific mass spectrometer systems including the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Elite, Q Exactive, Velos Pro and TSQ Vantage family of mass spectrometers.

The integrated EASY-Spray solution:

  • Simplifies operation and reduces the time needed to make and troubleshoot error-prone connections and to optimize the spray.
  • Eliminates dead volumes, producing ultra-sharp peaks and unsurpassed peak capacity to maximize peptide coverage for comprehensive proteome characterization.
  • Supports the full pressure range, up to 1000 bar, of UHPLC methods, including those employing small particle sizes and long columns, for more peptide identifications and higher throughput.
  • Provides reliable and robust performance, including outstanding column-to-column reproducibility, for large experimental designs and multi-site collaborations.

Customers using EASY-Spray have realized significant benefits. "The optimization and reproducibility achievable by years of nanospray experience are built into the device. Heated UHPLC 50 cm column chromatography was not easy until now," said Dr. Paul Taylor from The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
