NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-Use Mixer (SUM) DS 300 system, an innovative, cost-effective single-use mixer ideal for pilot-scale liquid preparations for vaccine and biologic manufacturing.

Combining high performance and process efficiency, the HyPerforma SUM DS 300 system is ideal for both upstream and downstream processing, enabling manufacturers to effectively meet liquid production demands with a minimal capital investment. Thermo Fisher’s growing portfolio of bioprocessing solutions is on display this week at Interphex 2013, Jacob Javitz Convention Center, New York, April 23-25, 2013, Booth #2533.

Featuring the same proven mixing system used in Thermo Scientific single-use bioreactors, the HyPerforma SUM DS 300 system is designed for multiple uses – for mixing buffers and media from liquid-to-liquid and power-to-liquid, as well as re-suspension applications. It also offers many advantages over other mixing systems including the ability to use the same docking station for sizes from 50 to 300L drums, which reduces process steps and costs, and dynamic configurability for certain applications.

“Single-use technologies have typically been out of reach for most pilot-scale manufacturing applications,” said Millie Ullah, senior product manager, single-use technologies at Thermo Fisher. “Our new HyPerforma mixing system combines the performance, flexibility and economy that smaller-volume applications require including the ability to mix, store and ship in the same container, delivering outstanding flexibility and high throughput.”

The HyPerforma SUM DS 300 system consists of a docking station with an adjustable top-mounted, angled mixing system for either a single-use bioprocess container bag or liner in stainless steel or standard plastic drums that can accommodate volumes from 50 to 300L with a 5:1 turn down ratio.
