ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A new continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) for wet stack particulate matter emissions enables simplified compliance with U.S. EPA regulations for utility companies, cement manufacturers and organizations with industrial and commercial boilers.

The new Thermo Scientific Particulate Matter Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (PM CEMS) is designed to improve accuracy by offering true mass concentration that meets the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-traceable standards for customers seeking to comply with the Utility Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), Portland Cement Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT), and the Industrial/Commercial/Institutional Boiler MACT.

Thermo Fisher will showcase its new PM CEMS system this week at the Air Quality IX conference October 21-23, 2013, Crystal Gateway Marriott, Booth # 403.

The Thermo Scientific PM CEMS is designed with dual monitoring technology that includes both light scattering (Nephelometry) and tapered element oscillating microbalance (TEOM, a proprietary Thermo Fisher technology) to measure and record effluent particulate emissions coming off the stack. Designed for maximum accuracy, the proprietary TEOM technology measures the true mass concentration of particulate matter emissions that are designed to provide precise and accurate readings that simplify regulatory compliance and facilitate successful audits.

“As affected industries evaluate monitoring technologies to meet the various MACT regulations, reliable, accurate, and precise results that simplify QA/QC audits and minimize regulatory risk is key,” said Dieter Kita, director of R&D, environmental and process monitoring, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We’ve designed the PM CEMS to make compliance with the MACT rules simpler for plant and environmental managers.”

In addition, the PM CEMS offers:

  • Fully automated QA/QC procedures
  • The only dual monitoring solution for performance specification 11 compliance on the market
  • A portfolio of complementary products that provide a total solution for MACT regulations, including the Thermo Scientific Mercury Freedom System, Thermo Scientific OMNI FTIR CEMS and Thermo Scientific ARKE S03 System
